September 2011: Dr. Brimacombe becomes Board Certified
SOS congratulates Dr. Brimacombe for becoming board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Board certification is a two-part process that begins with passing a written test. Several years later, an intense oral examination is performed evaluating actual care provided to patients. Board certification is good for 10 years at which time a maintenance of certification test is required. Continuing medical education is mandated throughout the 10 years.
June 2011: OSO begins treatment of nail fungus
OSO is now treating toenail fungus, a condition that affects approximately 10% of the US population, using a state-of-the-art laser treatment system. February 2011: AAOS Annual Meeting
Drs. Brimacombe and Seidel traveled to San Diego to attend the annual meeting for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. During the 5-day conference, numerous lectures were attended covering subjects including sports medicine, foot/ankle surgery, musculoskeletal tumors, and fracture care.
January 2011: Dr. Brimacombe attends Ofirmev Speaker Training Meeting
Dr. Brimacombe was invited to and attended a speaker training meeting for a new medication called Ofirmev, an intravenous form of acetaminophen. This new medication should help patients in their battle against surgical pain.
January 2011: Specialty Orthopaedic Surgery Welcomes Frank Moussa, MD
Frank Moussa, MD is a welcomed addition to the Specialty Orthopaedic Surgery team. He has years of experience in Sports Medicine, knee replacements, and fracture care. We are excited about our newest member.
December 2010: OSOAZ says goodbye to Dr. Mallin
After 40 years in the medical field and nearly 20 years of treating orthopaedic oncology patients, Dr. Mallin has decided to retire. His warm heart and steady hands have touched the lives of many patients and family members. His compassion and expertise will be missed.
December 2010: Dr. Brimacombe attends trauma course
Dr. Brimacombe attends the Depuy trauma course in Miami, Florida. The two-day course included didactic and hands-on training covering current concepts and treatment options for upper and lower extremity fractures.
November 2010: Dr. Seidel attends sarcoma conference
Dr. Seidel attends the international meeting for Sarcoma Treatment in Paris, France. The latest treatments and concepts in sarcoma management were discussed and shared.
November 2010: OSOAZ instructs other surgeons
Drs. Mallin and Seidel were instructors at an instructional course for the Compress Device. This device has revolutionized limb salvage procedures.
October 2010: Dr. Seidel named Medical Director
Dr. Seidel is named Medical Director of Orthopaedic Oncology at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare
August 2010: Drs. Seidel and Brimacombe are trained for anterior total hip replacements.
Drs. Seidel and Brimacombe traveled to Seattle, WA, to complete the Biomet training course for Anterior Total Hip Arthroplasty. This surgery is a newer approach to a classic surgery. The anterior approach is a muscle-sparing approach that decreases post-operative pain and allows for quicker recovery than traditional approaches. At Specialty Orthopaedic Surgery, we are excited about making this procedure available to our patients.
July 2010: Dr. Brimacombe attends the Synthes Shoulder Course
Dr. Brimacombe participated in a special skills course and training lab focusing on Shoulder Replacement surgery.
April 2010: OSOAZ welcomes Sarah Bolander, PA-C
Sarah Bolander, PA-C, is the newest addition to OSOAZ. She will be working closely with Dr. Seidel in the clinic and in surgery to enhance the comprehensive care given to our patients. She joins our team with a strong background in orthopaedic surgery.
March 2010: Dr. Brimacombe attends the AAOS annual meeting.
The annual AAOS meeting brings together orthopaedic surgeons from around the world to share the latest information and studies in the field. Dr. Brimacombe participated in a number of seminars in subjects including sports medicine, foot & ankle surgery, and trauma.
July 2009: SOS/OSOAZ is proud to welcome Sean Brimacombe, MD to the practice.
Dr. Mallin and Seidel have been looking to bring on a partner who could offer general orthopaedic care to our patients with the compassion and personal service we already offer to our oncology patients. Dr. Brimacombe will be seeing patients with sports injuries, joint pain, foot and ankle problems and any type of musculoskeletal injuries including sprains/strains and fractures. We are all very excited to welcome Dr. Brimacombe.
June 2009: Dr. Seidel begins to use Customized Signature Total Knee Replacement
The forefront of knee replacement technology has been introduced by Biomet and Dr. Seidel is now proud to offer this customized Total Knee Replacement solution. For years orthopaedic surgeons have known that precise placement of Total Knee Replacement components improves the function and longevity of the knee replacement. Now, customized implantation is possible for each patient. The process starts with an MRI of the knee and leg. Computerized technology then custom fits a knee replacement to the MRI images of the knee. Finally, custom alignment guides are manufactured and delivered to your doctor. This allows perfect and customized placement of your Total Knee Replacement.
May 2009: Dr. Mallin instructs other surgeons on the use of the Compress device
Dr. Mallin was invited to help instruct other orthopaedic surgeons in the use of the Compress device at this years Society for Osseointegration meeting in San Francisco. This device uses compression and titanium surfacing to help attach metal components to bone. The compression/titanium combination allows biologic (not cemented) fixation of components such as knee and hip replacement to bone. Dr. Mallin was one of the first to use such as device and participated in its research and development.
March 2009: Dr. Mallin recognized for 25 years of service to Phoenix Children's Hospital.
Dr. Mallin has been an active staff member of Phoenix Children�s hospital since near its inception. From the days when PCH was only two floors of Good Samaritan Hospital through its transition to the free standing hospital we know today, Dr. Mallin has taken care of the pediatric orthopaedic and orthopaedic oncology needs of the patients of PCH.
February 2009: Drs. Mallin and Seidel attend AAOS
This years American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons meeting was held in Las Vegas. As members of the AAOS and the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, Drs. Mallin and Seidel met with orthopaedic surgeons from all over the world to discuss treatment of our patients and attend educational lectures.
January 2009: Dr. Seidel attends PATH Hip Replacement Course
As we realize that faster recovery and better function after Hip Replacement Surgery relies on less tissue trauma, specialized techniques have been developed. Dr. Seidel is excited to bring the Percutaneous Assisted Total Hip by Wright Medical back to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. This technique allows replacement of the hip socket and ball (Total Hip Replacement) with a much smaller incision and much less muscle damage. For more information https://azhippain.com.
December 2008: Dr. Seidel to start Tucson clinics.
In order to serve our patients of southern Arizona, Dr. Seidel will start seeing patients twice a month at the University of Arizona Cancer Center. Not only will Dr. Seidel be seeing patients with musculoskeletal tumor problems, he will also be one of the founding members of the Arizona Cancer Center Sarcoma Program. This program is made up of several doctors, nurses and research personal whose goal is to provide a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of bone and soft tissue Sarcoma.
November 2008: Dr. Mallin to be local host for yearly Musculoskeletal Tumor Society Meeting
An active member of the MSTS for many years, Dr. Mallin was asked to host this prestigious national meeting in Phoenix. Both Dr. Mallin and the office staff has worked hard for almost 3 years to bring this meeting to Phoenix and the Arizona Biltmore. Attendees will arrive from all over the World to discuss how best to treat patients with musculoskeletal cancers and other tumors.
September 2008: Dr. Mallin Surprise clinic up and running.
Dr. Mallin is excited to begin seeing patients in Surprise, AZ. This will shorten the trip for many of our West Phoenix and Western Arizona patients. He will be using the offices of Sun Valley Orthopaedic Surgeons. Patients are encouraged to ask about this location when making appointments.
